Medical Challenges

My dear 14 year old had a shock last weekend; she unexpectedly turned up with
a blood result showing severe anemia due to iron deficiency. There is a new
pediatric specialist now (hem/onc) and he is a dear, dear man. San Antonio really has the best
in medical attention. Anyway, three units of blood later, she is feeling better,
but yesterday had a podiatrist work on her toe and today she is sleeping. She is
off to CAMP camp tonight; God bless them!!!!
We are so fortunate to be here; of course,
we'd rather live in Oregon (home) but we will
visit; must put her medical needs first!!!
We visited the hemotologist/oncologist's yesterday
just for paperwork; next week is the blood test/infusion
visit. I have also found out that the VA will pay for
schooling starting at 14 for kids with special needs,
dependants of 100% disabled veterans!!! Yay! ~mom4specialG

This is the day the Lord has made, but we are not rejoicing. We are waiting to hear the results of a child support motion to reset support amount. My darling daughter's father is trying the intimidate and dominate avenue. Suddenly he wants to trade e-mail, he says. I call and he says, "We will be better off if we figure things out on our own," "Yeah," says I, thinking "Whaaa---? Is that why we have been so screwed these last 13 years, with crummy healthcare, piddling child support, etc., etc.?" How did I end up with such a loser? How could I have put my child in this world connected to such a creep? To have to deal with heartaches of disability on the autism spectrum, and have such a man for a father? I can never forgive myself. I am praying that we can find a decent private school for her this year if this is ever settled. Richard's threat, "If you do not deal with me directly and 'work this out with me' directly, I will continue legally until you are broke!
Good grief, I am already broke. Why would I put us through this unless she absolutely needed it. Simply being in touch with him makes my skin crawl. God forgive him, I cannot. Lord, bless my daughter with what she needs to best grow up a child of God, confident in her blessings, in Jesus' name. Amen.

Memorial Day Concert in Washington D.C.

Tonight I was so proud to see that my little Earth Saver was full of patriotic feelings for the men and women who have been hurt and died in service of the nation. She knows little of the complications we face in this terrible conflict, but I must say this was one of the very best I have seen, full of the truth of the terrible challenges we veterans face, but full of hope and strength, and even inspiration. Natalie Cole and many others did such a beautiful job of saying, "I love you; you are not forgotten." And little Rebecca sang "God Bless America" and made me proud that she does love this land of complications, but truest of spirit. We will get it right, and save the health of this earth before it is irrevocably broken.

Earth Savers Fellowship Scribe's Note

I have just helped my daughter Rebecca to post her first blog on the Earth Savers Fellowship. I help her Sunday School class, home educate Rebecca during the week, and have just completed a Masters in Education, e-learning, technology and design to reassure myself that I am educating her in a wise and judicious manner. It was not my choice; after looking closely at resources in the public school, it was clear that the school was doing more harm than good. I am 100% disabled, but manage to get around, and try to take Rebecca to parks and camping. We are just now starting a new hobby: kayaking. We have been canoing, and my father has a navigator's credential for sailing, so I am sure we can handle this. I was a part of segregating the schools in the deep South, so I have mixed feelings about not being a part of the public school system, but it just does not have well developed autism support, in most cases.
I am doing the typing, and some reminding, but Rebecca is in charge of the entries. She has dysgraphia, but is gifted verbally, as you might have noticed. We are, by the way, a laissez-faire type of home education environment. I use an online subscription curriculum when we want structure as well as to nurture an appreciation for the net, and I have a complete "TV411 curriculum" so we are covering the basic living skills for adult responsibilities and practical literacy, and will be ready for GED one day; other than that, we go with the flow. I want her to appreciate her own capabilities; she had become rather depressed in school, so we have a ways to go. By the way, Rebecca is 14 years old, but socially/emotionally about 8. Thanks for the prayers, parents of special kids! Lis
